Austin and I went to Capilano College on Tuesday to present “Networking 101″. It was an excellent presentation and I think the students got a lot of it. The most important thing we covered, as far as I’m concerned, is creating an effective elevator pitch. This is something I learned from the Investor Ready seminar put on by the Angel Forum and it is still some of the best advice I have ever received. Small Business Week Success

Today is the end of Small Business Week. It was a huge success on the North Shore. Yesterday the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce put together a Small Business Bootcamp which ran from 9:00am to 5:00pm and featured speakers covering topics about E-commerce, setting up a company, accounting, strategy, and marketing. I was invited to speak on the E-commerce topic and had a great time. The group was very enthusiastic and asked a ton of great questions. Good Karma pays dividends

My current volunteer committments include the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, the Air Cadets, the Coho Society, and my daughter’s preschool. On top of being a partner in Sentias, a boss to 10 employees, a husband to my wife, and father to my children, why would I insist on committing so much time (close to 15 hours a week or more) to these other organizations? I learned through my public service experiences at school (St. Georges) and through the Air Cadets, that donating one’s time and expertise to worthy non-profit groups can pay dividends in the future.
