Back in the Cockpit
It had been over five years since I had been in a cockpit and I feared that I would never fly again. After joining the 525 Squadron again I realized how much flying meant to me. It’s hard to describe because flying, although it is a passion, is different then other passions I have. In a way, it is like playing golf or any other sport. It requires 100% of your concentration and effort. You cannot be distracted by the usual things like cellphones, children, dogs, clients, or staff. Flying is so absorbing and yet uniquely liberating at the same time. Perhaps it is different for me because... Read more »
Pilot’s Eye Guides Sentias Owner
The North Shore Business Journal sent me a copy of the latest edition. It has a profile about yours truly. When I did the interview with Joanna I had no idea that the driving theme would be flying. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. I think she did an excellent job with the piece and I really appreciate the profile. I think it is a great little publicity piece for the squadron as well. Last weekend he Air Cadets had a winter survival exercise at Mount Seymour. Although the kids had an excellent time, the organization and execution of the activities was definitely lack lustre. We are presented with so many opportunities to give others the chance to lead, take responsibility, and succeed or fail on their own terms. For example, during the clean-up of the equipment, the NCOs got the Cadets... Read more »
The other instructors and I have been trying to figure out how to get a website set up for the squadron that doesn’t infringe on DND’s requirements. The answer was actually fairly simple… we don’t. This should help a lot with keeping the cadets up to date on events and give us an opportunity to keep the community more informed on what the Squadron does. Sentias... Read more »

Good Karma pays dividends
My current volunteer committments include the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, the Air Cadets, the Coho Society, and my daughter’s preschool. On top of being a partner in Sentias, a boss to 10 employees, a husband to my wife, and father to my children, why would I insist on committing so much time (close to 15 hours a week or more) to these other organizations? I learned through my public service experiences at school (St. Georges) and through the Air Cadets, that donating one’s time and expertise to worthy non-profit groups can pay dividends in the future. Those dividends are... Read more »
