Microsoft targets online travel for new digital advertising solution
Although this video has been out for a while now, I thought it was appropriate to post it again. The video is an ad for Microsoft’s Digital Advertising Solution which, from what I can tell, is Microsoft’s answer to Google Adwords. When I first read the term Digital Advertising Solution I thought the term referred to digital display advertising like LCD monitors on trains and buses. I was a little disappointed to find out that the term actually referred to context sensitive ad system that give you the ability to write ads that are more specific to particular demographics. It is an interesting idea with some good potential, but this is hardly a conversation with the consumer in the way the ad implies. Seems to me that with the amount of competition for travel consumers online the best way that companies can compete is to re-evaluate who their product offering and focus on providing none commodity based products. Is it really realistic to have a business model based on selling airfare and hotels anymore?
Here is the video ad and the link to Microsoft AdCenter - Travel Consumer Case Study.
I wonder how long it will take Google to come up with a similar advertising analytics solution. Given Google’s huge reach, the type of analytics they could gather would have incredible value to all segments of online marketing.
